Transition to net zero emissions in China: Investment theme and outlook

About this event

COP26 has just concluded and a new climate change pact has been announced and for the first time, the reduction of coal usage has been included. More urgent efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are being addressed while developing countries are promised billions of dollars in order to adapt to the impact of climate change.

China has announced its target of net zero emissions by 2060; and it will start to reduce its usage of coal from 2026 and thereafter.
In this context, State Grid Corporation of China, the country’s state-owned electric utility and also the world’s largest utility, launched a carbon neutral index in April 2021 in partnership with Sino-Securities Index Information Service.
In the energy transition, China’s role on the world stage is crucial.

In this webinar, SSI will discuss the initiatives of the State Grid Corporation in the energy transition, the methodology used in the design and construction of the SSI State Grid Carbon Neutral index, the first in the country, and the performance of the sector.

The webinar will address the following issues:
• The case for a carbon neutral index
• How a carbon neutral investment theme stands out during times of market volatility
• Outlook for the carbon neutral sector in China for 2022

Dr. Liu Zhong, General Manager, Sino-Securities Index Information Services (Shanghai) Co. Limited will address the role of State Grid Corporation in the carbon neutral initiative and the case for the carbon neutral index while Dr Hing Tang, Founder, Donkey Ministry Ltd will discuss the performance of a carbon neutral investment theme and the outlook for 2022.

The session, in Mandarin and English, will be moderated by Hui Ching Hoo, Senior Finance Reporter, Asia Asset Management
